The Arctic fox is a small, resilient mammal perfectly adapted to life in the harsh conditions of the Arctic tundra. About the size of a domestic cat, it has a compact body, short legs, and a bushy tail, all helping it conserve heat. One of its most striking features is its thick fur, which changes with the seasons—bright white in winter to blend with snow and brown or grey in summer to match the tundra landscape.
Located on the island of Spitsbergen, which is the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago and situated in the Arctic Ocean, the artic fox was resting on a grassy slope surrounded by Glaucous Gulls, hopeful for an easy meal.
